SanDisk introduced a new line of embedded flash drives, the iNand Extreme. These new drives are designed to be used with high-end tablets and other mobile devices that require high performance drive for data-intensive applications. The new drive features up 80MB/sec of sequential read and up to 50MB/sec of sequential write speeds.
With all the multimedia files that tablet devices use there is a significant need for speed and responsivnes of the drives. Some devices feature HD recording capabilities which is a data-intensive process and a fast drive reduces the risk of frame-drops. This can also signifactly increase the data-rate of the video and in turn quality.
“The embedded application market is experiencing significant growth through the increasing popularity and variety of mobile computing platforms,” said Jeff Janukowicz, research manager, solid state storage technology, IDC. “Companies with broad embedded product lineups and value-added services have an increasing capability to meet the diverse needs within the mobile market.”
